Rest Is An Eternal Desire

Each and everyone of us need to make a decision. And this decision comes from a quote that I was reading this week...and it says ”That at some point in our lives every single person has to come to grips on whether HE or me is going to at the center of our existence.”

And church, the reality is you are going to make that decision today. You are going to make that decision today...and then you’ll wake up in the morning and you’ll make that decision again and the next day and the next day. And you are either going to respond to Jesus’ invitation like the folks he’s talking to in this passage and say “No thanks Jesus, I got this wheel. I’m going to figure it out, I’m going to find rest on my own.”

Or you are going to respond like children, that says in humility. “I’m exhausted of trying to find rest on my own, will you help me...

And some of you might still be worried about how he responds...but let me remind you...Jesus is gentle and lowly

So when we say, Jesus I’ve sinned and it’s ugly. Jesus says, I am kind.
But, Jesus I have sinned over and over. Jesus says I am patient.
But, Jesus I am so beaten down. Jesus says I am tender, not rough.
I’m full of anger and coldness. Jesus says I am warm and at peace.
But Jesus, I’m a nobody. Jesus says, Yes, and I’m lowly and unimpressive. Jesus I hate how my life has gone. Jesus says, I’m not indifferent to your pain.

Because Jesus is saying...

“Hey you, you over there, come to me...yes all of you...all of you who are weary and burdened by the baggage in your life. Come to me and take my yoke...do what I do, live like I live, love like I love and learn from me...Why? Because I am kind and tender and welcoming and open to you...and when you come to me...You will find the very thing you’ve been looking for your entire life...and that is rest for your souls...
