Blinded by Bitterness
Justice meets compassion – God could’ve let Jonah die, for his disobedience – that would be justice – but God showed compassion on him, and sent a whale to rescue him from drowning
In your running, hiding, pursuit of all the wrong things, God still provides a vehicle back to his plan for your life – the whale is an illusion to the cross – in your worst moment, Jesus still died for you – in your wandering, your self-seeking, your bitterness, your anger, your unforgiveness, Jesus is the vehicle back to the heart of God.
1. Your role as a follower of Jesus is simple: HEAR God’s voice and OBEY. Part of hearing God’s voice is putting yourself in a listening position. Sitting in secret place and allowing God to speak, and then walk in obedience to whatever he tells you – for some, you may say, “I don’t know what he’s saying” – Keep doing the last thing he told you until you hear something different
2. Bitterness will blind you from God’s purpose for your life. For some, you need to lay down your need for justice and embrace God’s compassion today.
3. There is always a boat going in the opposite direction. There are PLENTY of opportunities to go in the opposite direction of the WOJ – in fact, follow the culture, it seems pretty easy – Matthew 7:13-14
4. God will provide a vehicle back into his plan for your life. You are never too far gone for God. The cross is the ultimate vehicle back to the heart of God.
