The God of the Impossible: Unleashing and Activating the Power of Jesus in Our Lives

In our recent sermon, we delved into Matthew 9, exploring the profound ways Jesus equips us with a "faith toolbox" to navigate life's challenges. Just as a handyman relies on his tools, we, too, have spiritual tools provided by God to overcome obstacles and grow in faith.

The Toolbox of Faith

Imagine a toolbox filled with various tools, each representing different aspects of our faith. Some tools we use frequently, like prayer and scripture reading, while others, like fasting or spiritual gifts, might be less familiar. The key is to recognize and utilize these tools effectively.

In Matthew 9, Jesus demonstrates how He builds our faith toolbox through His ministry of teaching, preaching, and healing. These actions are not just historical events but lessons for us to understand the power and authority of Jesus in our lives today.

The Essential Tool: Faith

One of the most crucial tools in our faith toolbox is faith itself. Jesus demonstrated this through His ministry of teaching, preaching, and healing. In Matthew 9, we see two blind men and a mute man healed by Jesus, illustrating the power of faith.

  • Blind Men Healed: The blind men cried out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" (Matthew 9:27). Their plea was not just for physical sight but also for spiritual insight. Jesus asked, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" (Matthew 9:28). Their affirmative response led to their healing, showing that faith activates God's power in our lives. Jesus said, "According to your faith, let it be done to you," and their sight was restored (Matthew 9:29-30).

  • Mute Man Delivered: Similarly, the mute man, demon-possessed and unable to speak, was healed by Jesus. "When the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke" (Matthew 9:33). This miracle underscores that our spiritual blindness and muteness can be overcome by faith in Jesus.

Applying Faith in Our Lives

Faith is not just about believing in miracles but about trusting God in every aspect of our lives. Whether it's overcoming personal struggles, restoring relationships, or stepping out of our comfort zones to share the gospel, faith is the key to unlocking God's power.

  • Admit Your Need: Acknowledge areas in your life where you need God's intervention. Just as the blind men and the mute man recognized their need for Jesus, we must admit our own spiritual blindness and muteness.

  • Believe in God's Power: Trust that God can bring breakthroughs in your life. Jesus said, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you" (Matthew 17:20).

  • Continue in Faith: Persist in your faith journey, even when challenges arise. The blind men and the mute man did not give up; they sought Jesus with determination and faith.

A Call to Action

As a church, we are called to be a movement of people filled with a big God, big faith, and big activity. Let's not settle for a manageable God who fits into our schedules. Instead, let's embrace the God of the impossible, who can make the blind see and the mute speak.

Jesus' ministry was characterized by teaching, preaching, and healing. "Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness" (Matthew 9:35). This holistic approach to ministry is a model for us to follow.

Conclusion

Reflect on your own faith toolbox. Are you using the tools God has provided to their fullest potential? Are you ready to see God move in miraculous ways in your life and community? Let's step out in faith, believing that with God, nothing is impossible.

Consider the words of Jesus: "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field" (Matthew 9:37-38). We are those workers, equipped with a faith toolbox, ready to bring in the harvest.
